Riptide GP: Renegade is an arcade racing game in which you pilot a hydro jet across waterways while police pursue you from behind. The core activity is high-speed racing: you try to stay ahead, use your driving skills to escape capture, and build speed boosts through stunts along the way.

Controls and Boost

The controls follow a familiar arcade racing layout. The right trigger accelerates, the left trigger brakes, and the A button activates your turbo. The game has nine tracks, which you race repeatedly across five chapters. The settings vary from a theme park to a flooded city. Each track includes alternate routes and shortcuts, and some of these routes open up as the course shifts. For example, water fountains in the theme park level can push your hydro jet upward onto another section of the course, letting you skip a short stretch of track. The levels also contain obstacles and hazards, including dreadnoughts that can be used as ramps and water police who try to ram you off the course.

Career, Challenge and Multiplayer

The career mode is the main single-player route. It starts with an entry-level race and moves through a series of challenges against tougher opponents and bosses, with a story that follows your own Riptide journey. The challenge mode asks you to race against top racers in the game and against your own ghosts across several racing stages. Multiplayer lets you form a team and race online with up to eight players, with results shown on a leaderboard. As you progress, more jet skis and map scenarios unlock.

Gameplay Tips

Handling is one of the most useful upgrades to prioritize early. Contact with a wall or obstacle slows you down, and the waves on the tracks toss hydro jets up and down, so better handling gives you more control sooner.

Most tracks include at least one shortcut, and the best ones can help you win a race or finish in the top three. Boost is most reliable on straight sections. Using it on winding stretches with many turns can cause you to lose control or hit obstacles, which can cancel the speed gain.

Simple stunts at levels one and two provide less boost but are easier to land, and they can usually supply enough boost for a top-three finish in most races. Higher-level stunts are riskier, but they may be needed to finish first in some races and to beat later bosses. The Triple Back Flip and Triple Front Flip are described as among the more straightforward level 10 stunts. Avoid attempting level 10 stunts from low ramps, because those ramps do not provide enough elevation.

Elimination races are shorter events in which seven hydro jet riders are eliminated until one remains. Because there is little time to recover lost ground, a strong start matters. Upgrading acceleration before these races helps, and the Boost Start can give a fast launch. To perform it, tap the boost button at the same moment the three green lights blink on. A well-timed Boost Start can place you in the top two or three positions at the beginning of a race.
